Aluminum nitride can be described as an inorganic compound composed of nitrogen and aluminum. It is part of the wurtzite crystal structure and it has a bandgap measurement of 6 eV at ambient temperature. This makes it suitable for applications in the field of optoelectronics with deep ultraviolet. It can also be used in the form of a circuit bus semiconductors.

Aluminum Nitride is a hard technical ceramic, which is offered in thin and thick forms. It is produced using a process of reduction by carbothermal. Application of Aluminum Nitride

It is extremely resistant to corrosion, oxidation and even molten metals. It's stable even at higher temperatures and in an inert environment.

Aluminum nitride can be found in nearly every metal. It is a white to gray-blue powder. It is soluble in water and inorganic acids. It is, however, unstable in hydrogen atmospheres. It is also extremely flammable.

It is employed by mobile phone manufacturers to form"radio frequency filters. It is also employed in robotics and medical imaging. The piezoelectric properties of the material are employed in bulk acoustic resonances.

There is a report that most of the present research focuses on creation of semiconductor (GaN or AlGaN) -based LEDs that operate in the ultraviolet in which the wavelength is 250 nm. In May 2006 it was revealed that an inefficient light source could emit light at 220 nm in wavelength. A single crystal of aluminum nitride includes an energy gap that is 6.2eV determined by the measurement of vacuum ultraviolet reflectance. Theoretically this allows some waves having wavelengths on the order of 200 nanometers to be able to pass through. However, when implementing it commercially, many difficulties need to be solved. Aluminum nitride is used in optoelectronics. It is used as semiconductor layers in optical storage interfaces and electronics, semiconductors that have excellent thermal conductivity and military applications.

Stretching epitaxially of AlN crystals also is utilized in surface acoustic wave detectors due to the properties of the AlN piezoelectric effect. The detectors are positioned over the silicon wafer. Only a handful of places can be able to reliably produce these thin films.

The aluminum nitride materials have a high strength at room temperature and high temperature, a small expansion coefficient, and good thermal conductivity, and can be used to create heat exchangers for high-temperature structural components.
